Study To Be Quiet

“And that ye study to be quiet, and to do your own business, and to work with your own hands, as we commanded you” 1 Thessalonians 4: 11.

I remember my spiritual father narrating the story of when they were invited for a meeting and that there were alot of scholars there. He said during the course of the meeting, there was this particular young man who always has something to say the moment an issue was raised whether its making sense or not this person just kept talking. He said it got to a point that he looked at the young man and told him to learn to be quiet at times because everyone there has something to say but it’s just that you get to learn new things in your quiet state. This is exactly what alot of people do this days. Some people tend to be too lousy to the extent that they have stopped learning wisdom from the wise.

Not every time people bring issues that you must contribute. You should only say something when you know that you have something tangible to say. Instead of developing their skill, alot end up moving from one place to another discussing others. Only small minds discuss others.

Have you succeeded in knowing yourself? Then why do you bother to know others to the extent of saying alot of negativities about them.

Many people have lost golden opportunities due to their attitude of not minding their business. There was this story of a lady who went for a job interview. When this lady got to the place of the interview, she met a lady there mopping the floor who happened to be her course mate in school then. So this lady that went for an interview began to mock the lady mopping the floor that she was dissapointed to see her working as a cleaner despite how she was serving God back then in school. She hurled insults at her not knowing that this cleaner lady was only acting to be a cleaner but in the real sense was the owner of the company. But what disgust me the more in the story was this other lady who also came for the interview who never knew the cleaner lady before but decided to also join in insulting the cleaner lady. Well to cut the story short, they both missed the opportunity to be employed in that organization. But then the third lady who minded her business got the job.

Let me ask you and I, that how many opportunities have we missed by us not minding our business? I believe this story will serve a great lesson to always mind our business. Do not join force with people doing wrong simply because they are your friends. Do not take someone who has not offended you as enemy simply because they are enemy’s with your friends. Rather, learn to make peace among others.
